As of 28 August 2026, we have confirmed the data versions and roles currently used for the four countries. Behind Your Day publishes calculated estimates rather than large raw datasets, uses no provider logos, and does not imply institutional endorsement.

Data used by the current estimate
The site covers Taiwan, the United States, Japan and South Korea with 28 purchase choices. Every choice uses the closest country household-product evidence with the global supply-chain model and is labelled “Country-based estimate”. Official classifications and valuation detail differ by country and may be broader than the screen label.
Taiwan’s 28 choicesTaiwan DGBAS 2021 Input-Output Tables
The 163-product household-consumption, domestic product, CIF import, trade-margin, domestic-freight and product-tax tables form the Taiwan household baskets for all 28 screen categories. The product data are official statistics; Behind Your Day created the screen-category assignments.
Open Government Data Licence Taiwan 1.0Raw files are not shipped with the site. Some official products are broader than the screen label, including land transport, recreation, housing services and other personal services.

Household PCE categories define the baskets; national supply structures for 73 commodities provide domestic, import, trade, freight and product-tax shares. These are product-wide averages, not claimed household-specific observations.

Working hoursILOSTAT main-job hours
All four country models use each producer economy’s modelled 2022 mean weekly actual hours in the main job, multiplied by 52. One economy value is held across industries; no industry-specific precision is claimed. These are not records of people or occupations.
Prices and exchange ratesWorld Bank, Taiwan DGBAS and Central Bank
The United States, Japan and South Korea use World Bank annual all-items consumer price index (CPI) and 2022 reference exchange rates; Taiwan uses DGBAS CPI and the Central Bank rate. The price adjustment reflects overall inflation rather than a specific purchase category, and the exchange rate is not live.
Estimation limits
How the amount affects the result
After you choose a country and category, the site uses the corresponding local currency and industry-average data. Changing country does not convert or clear an amount already entered. If the country and currency do not match, no estimate is shown for that purchase. No estimate is shown while the required data is temporarily unavailable.
The result estimates how much work time is associated with this spending across the global production chain. It is not the actual time taken to make a particular item or provide a particular service. It is an approximate value; with other inputs unchanged, doubling the amount doubles the estimated work time.
All four countries use local official household-product structures with the 2022 global input-output and labour model. Source years are 2021 for Taiwan, 2022 for the United States and South Korea, and 2020 for Japan. Some U.S. and Korean valuation shares are same-product national averages; service profiles exclude contra-margins belonging to goods-distribution accounting. Product taxes or differences that cannot be allocated reliably are excluded from work time. A notice appears when an official product is broader than the screen label.
Each record keeps the currency, estimate and estimation method shown when it was saved. Older records are not automatically recalculated after a website update; the Dashboard uses the saved results.
